If-clauses Typ 1: reale Bedingungen
Bildung
| if-Satz | Hauptsatz |
|---|---|
| Simple Present | will-future |
- If it rains, we will stay at home.
- If you study, you will pass the test.
Die wichtigste Regel
Im if-Satz steht kein will. Das ist der häufigste Fehler, weil man im Deutschen hier auch Zukunft denken kann. Also nicht: If it will rain …
Reihenfolge und Komma
Der if-Satz kann vorne oder hinten stehen:
- If you hurry, you'll catch the bus. (Komma, wenn der if-Satz vorne steht)
- You'll catch the bus if you hurry. (meist kein Komma)
Varianten im Hauptsatz
Statt will können auch can, must, may oder ein Imperativ stehen:
- If you feel ill, you can stay at home.
- If you see Tom, tell him to call me.
unless
unless bedeutet „wenn nicht“: You won't pass unless you study. (= if you don't study)
Allgemeine Wahrheiten
Für Dinge, die immer gelten, steht in beiden Satzteilen das Simple Present (manchmal Typ 0 genannt): If you heat ice, it melts.
Merke
Typ 1 (reale Bedingung): if + Simple Present, Hauptsatz mit will + Grundform. Im if-Satz nie will.
So sieht es in der Praxis aus
Beispiel 1
- if-Satz: Simple Present, verneint: don't hurry
- Hauptsatz: will-future: will miss
Ergebnis If you don't hurry, you will miss the train.
Beispiel 2
- Im if-Satz steht kein will.
Ergebnis If it is sunny tomorrow, we will go swimming.
Jetzt bist du dran

Häufige Fehler vermeiden
